One of my biggest regrets is that I finished college. I didn’t just finish. I finished on time. With a respectable major and legacy to a well-regarded university. Needless to say, my family was mortified. It was so, well, traditional. And we were not a traditional lot. Strapped to my backpack, I went off to Europe and despite my parents’ urging to stay abroad, returned after only a few months to join my comrades in the work force.
Only it didn’t go as I expected. I didn’t get a 9-5 job and tip toe up any ladders. I waited tables by night and wrote half-truths on Capitol Hill by day. I dabbled in journalism and found my way into advertising. I got a job. And lost it. I got another one. And left it. I went back to school. And moved. And moved again. I got my dream job. Twice.
Then my dreams changed. I built and I broke and I failed and succeeded. I helped set the creative vision for brands that made award judges and Wall Street equally happy. I created work for platforms not yet invented, films that drove purchase through social and integrated brand narratives that just made people smile.
I had the honor of being named to Business Insider’s list of “Most Creative Women in Advertising.” And the privilege to build, grow and learn from cross-functional teams who are re-imaging the world in their own unique ways.
I’ve studied how as culture and technology become increasingly interwoven, the opportunity to become part of people’s lives is not only endless, it’s expected. This means our role as creative leaders must also evolve. We must be storytellers, strategists, channel specialists, technologist and creative problem-solvers.
My career has followed passion, rather than conventional. Looking for moments to create impact in meaningful ways, personally and professionally.
